The game's progression, lack of originality, and lack of content were criticized. The game received a generally positive reception from critics, with praise directed at its playful tone, art, combat, and character designs. Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 releases followed. The game was revealed at E3 2013, and released in February 2014 as a budget title for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The game is powered by the Frostbite 3 engine, and the team collaborated closely with Frostbite's developer EA DICE when implementing its technology. They faced different challenges when designing the game's eight classes. The team was inspired by other team-based shooters with colorful visuals such as Team Fortress 2. They decided to eschew the series' tower defense roots and use the game to introduce the franchise to a broader audience. PopCap Games began the development of Garden Warfare in early 2012. Upon completing matches and finishing objectives, players earn coins to acquire stickers that unlock customization items and character variants. At $20 for six figures, it’s a great bargain. Bottom line this is a solid set for fans of the series, even if you’re not big on the specific game these are based on. they are just Plants, though, and how much articulation could have been squeezed out there is probably questionable. Each can turn its head and that’s about it. The included Plants do lack the articulation of most Minimates. And with Minimates having interchangeable parts, you can really mix it up as you add multiples of a single Zombie design. Also, with these designs you have figures that work great as troop builders. So, right out of the box, you have yourself a nice squad to set up your own display. They start off with two of the most recognizable designs in the Engineer and Football Zombies and give you three unique plants (doubling up on the Peashooter). The set is a nice value, as you get total of 6 characters. Also in the packaging are Booster codes that can be used to unlock content on the Xbox 360 and/or Xbox One version of the game. However, the characters and plants they chose for this set could just as easily be from the 2D games, which is a major plus in my book. I was just a tad disappointed when I saw that these were based on Garden Warfare, and not the characters from PvZ 1 or 2. I always believed that the cartoon designs of the series would work wonderfully as Minimates. When Diamond Select Toys announced the acquisition of the Plants vs Zombies license, I was ecstatic.
